Whole Wheat Crepes

Whole Wheat Crepes

Whole Wheat Crepes

Asha Jible
Whole wheat crepes are our go-to breakfast recipe. The softness it has because of the whole wheat makes it favorite for the little ones. And they would eat it without any fuss. Our girls just love this, and keep asking for it every single day. It's not only easiest but the yummiest as well.
To make it more healthy, I do not add chocolate syrup at the last, it is just like a cherry on top, without chocolate syrup also it is the best recipe.
You could add Milk in place of water.
You could skip adding egg, by using buttermilk (adding 2and half cups(appox) instead of egg and milk)
Try it out and you would definitely love it.

Equipment

  • Cast iron pan or any other pan or skillet

Ingredients

  • cups Whole wheat flour (195gms)
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Sugar (25gms)
  • 2 cups Water (473ml) to make a batter of medium consistency, neither thick or thin
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • Chocolate syrup optional
  • Butter for greasing the pan

Instructions

  • Into a bowl, sift the whole wheat flour and salt together
  • To it add the sugar and using a whisk , mix well
  • Add water gradually and whisk well until it turns into a batter of medium consistency
  • The amount of water required would vary depending on the whole wheat flour used. Some requires more water than other varieties.
  • After that add the egg and mix into the batter
  • Once mixed well, add the vanilla essence and mix well for a minute or two until you get a nice batter
  • The consistency of the batter should be thinner than a pancakes' batter
  • To a hot tawa or pan , apply some butter to grease the pan
  • Pour a ladle of batter into the pan and gently spread it over using the ladle
  • Once the top side dries up, then it is time to flip the crepe
  • After flipping, gently press on top of the crepe, this is to make that beautiful brown dots on it. If you do not like any marks, leave it as it is.
  • After 2 minutes, or once the lower side is also cooked, flip it again
  • Then slowly fold it using the spatula
  • Take it off the stove
  • Serve with fruits and chocolate syrup on top.
