Lemon Chicken
The quick and best lemon chicken recipe you can make at home for dinner with an Indian touch. No soya sauce used. A healthy and yummy side dish for rice/ rotis/ tortillas.
Equipment
- Cast Iron Skillet
- Mixing bowl
Ingredients
To marinate the chicken
- 400 gms Boneless Chicken
- 2 tsp Pepper powder
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
- Salt to taste
For frying
- 1 tbsp Butter
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
For the gravy
- 2 tsp Butter
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 2 tbsp Garlic minced
- 3 Green Chilies (chopped)
- 2 medium Onions (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp Chili powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Lemon Zest (optional)
- 1/4 cup Lemon juice
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt to taste
Instructions
For marinating
- Into a bowl , put the cut chicken pieces
- Put the pepper powder, lemon juice and salt
- Mix well
- Set is aside for 15-20mins
For frying
- In to a skillet kept on medium flame, pour the butter and olive oil as given under the " for the frying " section
- Then place the chicken pieces and fry it in different batches
- It would take around 7-8mins on each side
For the gravy
- Into the same skillet, again pour 2tsp of Butter and 1 tbsp of olive oil
- Place the lemon slices and fry it until the sides become brown in color
- Flip the lemon pieces and fry the other side also
- Then take it off the skillet and keep it aside
- Add garlic and green chilies and stir for 3mins
- Then add the onions and stir for 5mins until sauteed
- Then add the chili powder, turmeric powder and salt
- Stir well for 5mins
- Then add the lemon juice and water and stir well
- Let the gravy boil
- Once it boils add the fried chicken and mix well into the gravy
- Then add the lemon zest and spring onions
- Check if salt is needed, if yes add a little salt according to taste
- Stir well for another 5mins
- Yummy Lemon Chicken is Ready

I had gone through different lemon chicken recipes, but wanted to try something with no sauce or vinegar but still wanted that Indian touch. The recipe came out to be superb.
You could skip the step of adding the lemon zest or reduce the amount of the lemon juice added to reduce the tanginess of the lemon chicken.
Serve hot with rice, roti, tortillas.
